How long can I store bottled water?
BPOM RI requires bottlers to put a caution in every label
to store bottled water in a cool, clean and odorless place
and away from direct sunlight. In addition, the International
Bottled Water Association advises consumers to store bottled
water at room temperature or cooler and away from solvents
and chemicals such as gasoline, paint thinners and dry cleaning
chemicals. (Source: www.bottledwater.org) If stored properly,
bottled water can be used indefinitely.

What should I look for when buying bottled
water?
ABWA recommends that you take these precautions when buying
bottled water:
- Don’t buy bottles that have a broken seal. Examine
the outside and inside of the bottle before you buy it.
Do not buy any bottles that have materials floating in it.
- Do not be fooled by impressive labels. Examine the bottle
and label for date of manufacturing or manufacturing code,
expiration date, chemical analysis, treatment, company contact
number, location and type of source water.
- Do not refill old PET bottles. It is preferable to buy
newly manufactured bottled water.”

How can I be sure to consume bottled water
safely?
Some tips that ABWA provides include:
- Do not share bottles.
- Buy only sealed products and wipe off the bottle or can
top before drinking or pouring from it.
- Store bottled water in a cool, clean environment away
from heat and sunlight; it is better to refrigerate bottled
water.
- Use water dispensers with coolers that keep the water
refrigerated.
- Clean water coolers regularly.
- Keep the bottle clean and preferably refrigerated as
the water as well as the inside cap and liner can support
bacteria. Clean the outside of the bottle cap and neck before
and after each use, wiping with either hot soapy water or
chlorine solution.

sure there is no dirt or dust left behind.
- Remove the seal and take the cap off.

Should I clean my water dispenser?
Like anything else, clean habits bring good hygiene. We strongly
encourage you to clean your water dispenser periodically following
these steps that ABWA recommends (source: www.ibwasia.org)
Cleaning the water dispenser:
- Unplug the cord from electrical outlet.
- Remove empty bottle.
- Drain water from the stainless steel reservoir through
the faucets.
- Prepare a disinfecting solution of 1 tablespoon (15ml)
of household bleach mixed with 1 gallon (4.5 liters) of
water, or other suitable disinfecting solutions. This solution
should not contain less than 100 ppm available chlorine.
- Wash reservoir thoroughly with bleach solution and let
stand for no less than 2 minutes (to be effective) but no
more than 5 minutes (to prevent corrosion).
- Drain bleach solution from reservoir through faucets.
- Rinse reservoir thoroughly with clean tap water and draining
water through faucets to remove traces of bleach solution.
Cleaning the drip tray (located under the faucets):
- Lift off drip tray.
- Remove the screen and wash both the tray and the screen
with mid soap or detergent.
- Rinse both the tray and the screen before replacing on
dispenser.
